  • Add money to your account
  • Download Archivst Desktop after logging into the website
  • Install the App

1. Open the App

Search for 'Archivst' in the Start Menu and click on the app. After restarting you can also open it from the system tray in the bottom right by double clicking the archive icon. When open, the app may ask you to update, you can refuse but we highly recommend you install the new version. If you refuse you will be asked again in a month.

2. Connect the app to your account

Click the user icon in the top right of the application. This will take you to the Archivst website, you then sign you in to your account and app links to your account. You can then close your browser and go back to the app.

3. Choose a folder to backup

When you first open the app, you will be shown the Backup menu. This will show you all the folders you have selected to backup. Click the plus icon to add a folder to this list.

You will be asked if you want to encrypt your data with your own password, if you say no your data will be encrypted with a password that Archvist keeps protected for you. If you choose your own password, Archivst will not be able to help recover the data if you forget it, the data will be effectively lost.

4. Choose what files to backup

Selecting a folder from the top half of the app, will show you the Folders and Files in the lower half of the app, everything will be selected by default and you can decide what you do not want stored by unticking any File or Folder.

5. Automatically filter files

You can choose to automatically not backup certain files by opening the folder options:

  • All Files / Exclude Files

By default All Files is enabled, clicking All Files switches you to Exclude Files which will let you filter out files or folders by typing into the box next to it.

For example, typing '*.pdf' will not backup any PDF files, beginning with a forward slash '/' will mean a Folder so typing on a new line '/new*' will exclude any folders that begin with 'new'.

  • Only Files Changed / Allow All Files

By default, only files not changed for the last 3 days is selected, this stops frequently changed files being stored multiple times and accidentally costing you more. Clicking Only Files Changed will switch to Allow All Files and not any files from being backed up based on the last time it was changed.

6. Choose a backup schedule

To automatically backup to the clould, you will need to choose when it will happen. By default it is set to Weekly on Monday. Select Schedule in the left menu and you will be shown how often you want the app to look for files to backup.
